Reading Action on Continuing Education

Accreditation

Reading University Short courses have been a route for many towards a full university degree. Courses can count towards a Certificate of Higher Education, which when awarded is an achievement in itself but also treated by the University as equivalent to the first year of a full-time degree course, and so as a gateway to a BA or BSc at Reading or potentially elsewhere. This works particularly well for mature students who want to work for a degree alongside other commitments.

The current short course programme includes some courses which are specifically for people who have declared that they are working for a Certificate. Other short courses offer credits which can count towards a Certificate. Some people may have been accumulating these credits with this in mind, without having declared that this is their objective.

The University is particularly interested in people who are working towards entry to a degree course and for whom this will be their first degree, since this will attract government subsidy. Perhaps if enough people are seen to be in this category, the University may be persuaded to continue the relevant courses. So if you come in this category, please come forward and perhaps make a real difference to what happens for at least some Reading University short courses next year. Please let us know by filling in the form below.

1.       If you use one of the forms on this website to give us information, it will not appear on the website directly. Posting the form will result in an email to those running the site, which we will consider when we next update the site (every few days). We will use your details only within the campaign; we will not provide them to any third party, except for the direct purposes of the campaign (eg as signatures on a petition to the university).
